A poem

A black and white image of a woman facing the ocean with wind in her hair

Our love singed the sky like lightning from the first
Flashing opulence
Secret and shining and new

Our bodies have been streaked by all these years of fire
Makeshift where once we were supple, smooth, and buoyant
An expanse of rivers carved out of joy and pain, space and time
Our memories etched into the stones we’ve carried over the years
To build a home constructed from the rubble of our youth

I part our riches with my fingertips
Lay bare the forbidden glinting
And sigh the particular satedness
Of Knowing, and being Known

Each new shimmering strand that catches light is a testament to our currency.

How could we ever want for more?

This poem was written in response to the true colors challenge.
