I am from the Line
where the Earth curves.
A town near the farthest western isles
of the northern point
of the fourth part
of the old world,
where the treeline
was etched in our land
by the wisdom of endless darkness
and the reawakening of endless light.

I am from the Forests of the Rain.
Where tangled roots burrow deep
gently setting tripwires
as protection from the night.
Where falling water sounds
like a cannonade of bullets,
and the earth smells like a tarp
from last year’s camping trip
rolled in the dark and
stuffed in the rafters of the barn.

I am from Honor.
Where a streak of stubborn will
defends the line in the sand.
A determination handed down
in the habits of generations past.
