Imogene’s Notebook
Wildflower
A poem in memoriam
Hear her sweet voice, the child awakes
Earth reborn in sunshine light
warming smile shyly offered
tiny dimpled hands touch ours
bundled in angelic white
Living for just a fragile moment
dazzling mountain wildflower
the time has come that she must sleep
the silence of her cradle speaks
Earth tumbles on its blackened way
Just the other day as I was walking
I saw a figure on a hill
dressed she was all in white
glowing in the evening light
I waved unsure, but then felt certain
Darkness fell, mist filled in quickly
I watched and waited until the dawn
but she was here for just a moment
like a wildflower, bloomed and gone
For all those who have lost a child, life becomes a journey through a numbing world of darkness, each day a separate struggle. Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day is nationally recognized on October 15th of each year, a day of remembrance for pregnancy loss and infant death, such as the SIDS death memorialized here.
