As we embark on conquering 2019 we would like to share our plan of attack and seek your support.

Despite the recent unfortunate events in our beloved city of Nairobi we remain undeterred and committed to our purpose of helping founders build transformative companies in Africa. Onwards and upwards!

From the results of an ecosystem-wide survey we conducted in December with local entrepreneurs we are more convinced than ever of the timeliness of our ecosystem capacity building accelerator approach. This is a thing!

More importantly, we are finalising agreements with startups in our first cohort which runs from February 1st to April 15th. We are super excited about these founders. By achieving traction each has demonstrated the key ingredients necessary for prosecuting a startup idea.

Vision
At IAN our vision is in 10–15 years be able to stand back, gaze at the Silicon Savanna skyline and pick out neon signage of great African companies that we were part of catalysing in the early days.

Timing
Nairobi now possess the key ingredients necessary for manifesting strong outcomes, which include:

  • Mature, battle hardened, hungry entrepreneurs working on their 2nd or 3rd projects
  • Business and consumer markets hungry for new innovative solutions
  • A young, talented population eager to participate in building new innovative companies (the new economy)
  • A groundswell of early stage startups seeking growth

Everywhere I go in the city I encounter proof of this unbridled entrepreneurial energy. It feels so much like San Francisco.

Mission
Our mission is encapsulated in the following two sentences:

  1. Increase the volume of fundamentally sound startups efficiently progressing through the startup development lifecycle in Nairobi
  2. Cultivate a culture of high performance, high integrity, and high collaboration

Goals

As you can see from these audacious yet achievable goals we need all the help we can get. We welcome your feedback and support.

Sincerely,
Mark
