Total outstanding student loan debt has surpassed $1.5 trillion and the average graduate with student debt is starting their career with an average of $37,000 in debt. The knee-jerk reaction would be to assume that forgiving student loan debt would be progressive policy.

In this story, I argue why forgiving student loan debt would actually be a regressive policy that would only serve to expand economic inequality.
