Abigail Cohen, Co-founder of Sparo Health

We are extremely pleased to announce that ASME ISHOW alumni and Sparo Health co-founders, Abigail Cohen and Andrew Brimer, made the 2018 class of Forbes 30 Under 30 in the category of healthcare. Chakr Innovation’s co-founders and ISHOW India alum Arpit Dhupar and Kushagra Srivastava also made the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in the category of social entrepreneurs this year. Abigail and Arpit joined a long list of ISHOW innovators who are recognized for their dedication to solving the world’s social problems through engineering.

Just last month, ISHOW 2015 winner Buoy Labs made it to Popular Mechanics’ editors picks for the best gadgets at CES 2018.

Phytoponics at ASME ISHOW

In November 2017, ISHOW alum Adam Dixon won the prestigious UN Young Champion of the Earth for Europe prize. Adam won the award for his horticultural innovation, Phytoponics, to tackle food insecurity and habitat loss, and we are extremely proud of the strides he has made in sustainability and agtech.

In December 2017, ISHOW 2017 fan-favorite from Kenya, HydroIQ made it to the inaugural class of Techstars Paris Accelerator:. Take a look at their exciting journey here.

In January, our 2015 winner, Alexapath, was featured on Economic Times India for their IoT innovation and for being among the top eight finalists for Cycle I of Qualcomm Design in India Challenge II (QDIC II).

Since 2015, ISHOW has discovered many young engineering entrepreneurs around the globe and helped cultivate their design ideas. From clean cookstoves to portable diagnostic devices, the winners of each ISHOW — whether in US, India or Kenya — are deploying tangible solutions to problems facing many underserved communities and we are incredibly proud of them.

Last year, ISHOW 2015 winners Marcus Lehmann, CEO of CalWave and Emily Woods, co-founder of Sanivation made the 2017 class of Forbes 30 Under 30 for energy. This year, former ISHOW participants, Bempu Health and Molekule made the TIME’s 25 best inventions of 2017. Several finalists were also featured in acclaimed publications such as BBC, The Star, Fast Company, Inc, Mashable and MachineDesign.

In addition to making the news for their continued commitment to looking beyond the familiar and improving quality of life, ISHOW innovators have had great luck with funding in 2017. In April, Paygo Energy, a Kenyan startup that provides a pay-as-you-go service for cooking gas, has raised $1.43 million in a seed, debt and equity financing round. Earlier this year, Adiuvo Diagnostics, a medical diagnostic device company, has raised $100K funding from social enterprise incubator, Villgro. In June 2017, the US Department of Energy awarded CalWave a multi-million award to test and validate CalWave’s award-winning wave energy converter (WEC) technology in open water.

ASME originally created ISHOW three years ago after our research showed a tremendous lack of support for hardware innovators seeking to enter global markets and make a societal impact. We couldn’t be happier that our vision is enabling entrepreneurs take their products to market. The work of hardware innovation is becoming more open, more inclusive, more transparent and more merit-based. Join us and be part of a global network of engineers, makers, dreamers, designers, investors and entrepreneurs.

Innovate. Gain Global Visibility. Change The World.

To create a truly innovative product that not only works, but is also scalable, profitable, and has a positive impact on society takes significant work. It requires testing, design iteration, customer feedback, and design guidance from industry experts. The ISHOW can help!
