Let’s Talk Tactics!
It feels like everything is starting to come together. With one week left in the course, the light at the end of the tunnel is very bright. Last week we got the opportunity to meet with change makers in our fields. This was a really great experience and I learned a lot. I got to chat and run ideas by a doctor at the Hospital for Sick Children, and I received a lot of great feedback, with new ideas and directions to take my issue. I really appreciate her help, and it allowed me to see a different perspective on my project, especially from someone who has real-world experience with very similar issues. It was interesting as well to see the inspiring people who my peers got to speak with.
In the morning we also got to chat with three MPP alumni who now work in the NGO and advocacy space. Not only do they work in this space, but they are all leaders, which was very inspiring to see as they were not that many years out of the program. Before this course, I hadn’t really considered what a career in the advocacy world would look like, so it was great to learn from alumni about what they do and how they transferred what they learned from the program into their careers now.
We spent the rest of the day discussing tactics for our issue and really rounding out our final ideas before the last week. During my conversation with the guest speakers, my idea and how I am addressing the issue definitely changed. I have my work cut out for me this week but I am really excited to finish out this term (and school forever!) on a high note!
