Welcoming Feedback Helps Us Grow

Participating in the Austin Impact Accelerator Cohort has been a challenging yet fulfilling experience. One of the biggest things we take away from every session is how to grow from the advice of fellow cohort members.

It can be challenging to hear critical feedback on something you are working so intimately on. But the repetition of hearing others perspectives has become almost natural and has pushed the RSA team to consider so many different possibilities to enhance our strategies.

As a 30 year social justice organization with a distinct ideology (indigenous-focused, non-hierarchical, anti-capitalist, grassroots organizing), we want to stick to our own methods. The challenge of constantly resisting the non-profit industrial complex is very difficult, but we are grateful our fellow cohort members understand where we are coming from and have gently opened up our minds to strategies that fit our particular values.

Some great feedback RSA has received has been to be strategic about recruiting more board members, partner with more organizations that can benefit from our space, perfect our pitch across all staff members, and apply for more capacity building grants to revitalize our organization.

We hope to continue navigating this path while keeping our ultimate vision in focus- providing a sustainable emotional/financial support system for Latinx and Native American artists. Ultimately, they are the reason we exist and we are determined to help them succeed and thrive in their creative endeavors. When they succeed, the whole Austin Latinx and Native American community benefits too.
