Everything New Again?

Shouts, “I’m a yoot! I’m a yoot with a eeeeeeee! Yoot with a purpose!

Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. — Isaiah 43:19

I have a feeling some of you have already rolled your eyes physically or mentally at this heading and/or the bible verse. The verse has probably become too familiar and bland on your taste buds. It has become like your ‘Inspire to Aspire’ motivational quote. Well, if you feel that way, then this article is for you! And Everyone else also!

There are typically two responses of people in relation to New Year’s. One is the “I Will Do Better” camp. This camp comes up with hundreds of resolutions and promises to change certain behaviours and activities as well as those to take up. This camp attends crossover services with their lists and sings and dances and prays fervently for better days. The other camp is the “Same old ” camp. This camp has lost the wonder of New Year’s or anything new and believes life is just and will be life. They have no real hope of change or better. Ebenezer Scrooge’s story hasn't touched this camp, and they are ‘Grinching’ into the new year.

Well, both camps can be wrong. The ‘I Will Do Better’ camp typically has two challenges. One, they have a wrong view of themselves and their will in relation to God and his sovereign will. They typically treat God like their genie in the bottle and think they can cajole him into doing things their way. They never seem to learn, until they have to. Second, they underestimate the hard work and discipline they have to inculcate to achieve their dreams and resolutions. This article is not about this camp by the way.

The Grinch camp is my focus. I am just here to tell you that, you cannot afford to allow your taste buds to be blanded (I hope this word is real, Grammarly, I’m speaking words of life, allow me). Okay, to use proper English.

You cannot afford to allow your taste buds to grow bland

Family, God’s words are not motivational speeches and if the Lord says he will do something new, he will. Why do you feel he has not been doing and won’t do new things?

Perhaps, it is because you are so familiar with God, that you no longer see the million little miracles. Perhaps, it is because your desires and God’s are so out of sync, he feels like your enemy. Perhaps, it is because the last year and season were filled with challenges, and you forgot to turn your eyes to the ‘true north’ fixed on the son each time.

Any of these can be your situation. If it is the first, teach yourself to savour God’s little miracles again. Take a walk in nature, read books and articles and listen to songs and scriptures that spur wonder afresh. Combine reading and listening. A good place to start is Romans 1:20 and songs like Hillsong’s ‘So Will I’.

If it is the second, do the same and at the same time, will yourself to surrender to God’s will. Slow down and ask yourself the basic questions. Seek to understand how God operates and his purposes in our world and your life. This life is not yours. Read the article in this link for more on that.

And if it is the third, do the same and remind yourself that God’s goodness is not debatable but a salient fact. Familiarize yourself with the saints of old and the glorious practice of Lamenting. Read the verses leading to Jeremiah 29:11 and Lamentations 2:22–23 and do the same. Pour out your heart to God not forgetting his goodness. Read the article in this link for more on that.

Whatever you do, don’t stay in your ‘Grinch-ness’. God brought this season on purpose, and it is time for you to step out into Love, hope and joy.

2025 will be a beautiful year.

Recite it over and over till it becomes truth. I know you probably have a coconut head and won’t. But mark my words, you will return with this testimony.

DO NOT LOSE YOUR WONDER

This year, we will step more into God’s will and do his bidding. God is raising an army, and we are blessed to be at the forefront. This year, we are in for Unrestricted Access and Action.
