Small, every day efforts add up to big effects.

This has never been obvious to me then when I sat down to write my first novel. At first, the process of wresting a three hundred page document from the bowels of my mind seemed as unlikely as a knock on the door from Publisher’s Clearinghouse, presenting me with a check for six hundred thousand dollars.

But I kept writing, five hundred words a day, and sure enough, in about a year I had a serviceable draft of a book. (I ended up cutting a lot of words, but that’s a story for another time.)

When I’m faced with something difficult in life, it helps me if I remember that my small actions can add up to a big impact. Here are — quotes to inspire you to keep going.

It took Michelangelo four years to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

It probably seemed like a long time to him while he was working.

But imagine if he’d gotten frustrated and stopped.

Keep going.
