the value of less in a culture of more

One of the strangest things about being human is just how easy it is for us to form attachments. Whether it’s an afternoon cookie, the newest gadget or even a bad relationship, we find ourselves forming bonds to the things we’re surrounded by. While modern life makes so many new things possible, it also happens to be cluttered. This creates an environment where it’s easier than ever to gather attachments until we’re overwhelmed, distracted and eventually — unhappy.

Thriving in this world means working hard to eliminate the negative, cultivate the positive and being aware of how much attention our attachments require. The process is not always easy and it often works differently for everyone, but in my experience there is one conclusion I find myself coming to over and over again — less is almost always more.
