It Takes Us to Build a Community on Medium

Want a community atmosphere on Medium? Then let’s do it together.

I’ve been on and off Medium for a while now. I’ve finally decided that this is the place to be.

My decision is based on a great deal of events that have happened. The main ones that come to mind are:

#1. elizabeth tobey taking the community manager role and wanting to make a difference.

#2. Myself thinking I can help some writers get recognized

#3. Medium seeming to care more about the writers on here

#4. More writers coming on board

I think I could come up with more, but for now, this is good.

If you want a community on Medium build it and they will come. I mean build it together.

We don’t need Medium to build a community on here. We need more of us. Elizabeth can only do so much alone.

The only way to build a community is to rally around what we feel is needed besides recognition. There is a need for us to rally around one another more than anything.

The need to ask for recommendations should not be needed within a community.

I read a post the other day about asking for recommendations. I’ve asked a few times and feel awkward about it. So as of now I am stopping.

When I started on Medium I went right at writing. Nothing was happening for me with recommendations or views/reads so I quit.

Then I came back for another try someone on Medium gave me the best advice ever. Comment. Comment more than write and build an audience.

I wrote a post yesterday about listening and to me this was the same thing. Forget writing, comment more and more.

I did and my community started to build. It’s growing daily and I feel better about writing also.

Let’s build this community together with Elizabeth and make Medium notice what we have done.
