True confession here — I really questioned sending Big Freedia bouncing booty to school. I was afraid Max or I would get in trouble for it. But lately when I get worried about offending someone or making a mistake I just do it anyway. I’d rather cross the line to find it, and well, the Big Freedia in my head’s always saying “You. Already Knooooooow”

She became my conscience this week. I’m obsessed with her appearance on “Back Seat Heat with Wendy Williams.” The Queen of Bounce is probably the most confident person I’ve ever heard.

Example 1
W — Do we address you as he or she?
BF — I know who I am. If you want to say he or she it doesn’t matter.

Example 2
W — Bounce music is very LGBT inclusive, Hip Hop is a whole ‘nother thing.
BF — When you create your own lane and you have respect for yourself people will respect you no matter what the genre of music is no matter who the artist is no matter what the situation is it’s all about how you carry yourself.

My anxious brain looks at this artwork and asks if I should really be sending a 6yo to school with a picture of the performer encouraging a woman to grab her ankles and shake dat short shorts azz in front of his class and the class at the adjoining lunch table. On cue, Freedia is like “You. Already knoooooow.” Yah I do.

It’s just harmless up tempo call and response booty shaking music. Kid’s love that, ask Koo Koo Kangaroo. Kids only real dance move is basically just twerking anyway. And if I did cross the line… well at least I found it.

Max and I watched the music video for “Duffy” after school. He was a little unsure until I told him “it’s ok to laugh at butt shaking, it’s fun.” He said “Yah, I’m doing it right now!” Kid’s got no ass, but you already know.
