The Job Description — Analyst

Impression Ventures invests in early-stage startup companies that are disrupting all aspects of financial services. We are seed investors in some of North America’s fastest growing fintech companies such as Wealthsimple, Symend, Owl, Afficiency and so many more. That’s the technical description of who we are but there’s so much more to what we do!

We take an active role in investing into late-Seed and early Series A companies. We provide strategic value to our portfolio companies — 20 to date — as well as all our Limited Partners, including two of Canada’s largest banks. We are now on our fourth fund, have funded one fintech unicorn and we are ready to find the next! Are you ambitious, proactive and ready for the next challenge?

We are currently hiring for the role of Analyst. Your day-to-day will include everything from deal screening to communicating with Limited Partners as well as the CEOs of our portfolio companies. You will have the opportunity to support and manage equity investments, relationships, and strategic initiatives. You are encouraged to join weekly strategy meetings with our portfolio companies to get a front-row view of supporting and building massive businesses. The analyst team is small but mighty, and interacts daily with the senior partners. While we collaborate regularly, Impression Ventures does not believe in micromanagement. Responsibilities:

• Perform market analysis and build comprehensive deal screens on prospective portfolio companies
• Build professional presentations for internal and external purposes, including pitching the team on the awesome deals you have sourced
• Aid in communications with Limited Partners and portfolio companies
• Record and summarize information and interactions regarding prospective deals in our deal flow management system
• Conduct strategic primary and secondary research on relevant industries and companies. Summarize findings in concise and impactful reports
• Assist in advising portfolio companies in strategic development
• Network with peers in Venture Capital Firms. Attend events that contribute to the Fintech startup ecosystem in Canada
• Manage IV’s marketing content and regularly assist in publishing thought leadership content online

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree
• 1+ years work experience in financial services, start-up, consulting experience or related field preferred
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
• High proficiency with presentation software tools for investment and promotional presentation decks
• Financial modelling skills required
• Strong quantitative background and ability to conduct financial analysis
• Demonstrable strategic thinking, decision-making and problem-solving abilities
• Strong preference for working knowledge of financial services and/or startup ecosystem

Benefits:

• $60,000 — $70,000 plus bonus
