You’ll often hear the word “traction.” What does it mean? Do you have it? If you don’t, how do you get it?

All good questions. At the core, I firmly believe that traction is as follows: Your story of momentum (growth), told through quantified evidence (numbers) of your market demand for your product/service.

The full text is available here, which goes deeper into the story of traction and de-risking as well.

Here is another article, which also covers traction. It’s not a definitive guide, but it does a good job of summarizing the concept of “growth over time of your active user base” as traction. But what time period? What is an active user? Heck, what is a user? Your job (and this goes back to the article) is to convince yourself (and thus investors) that you have the best definition of the time period, what active means and what a user means.

In a nutshell: Traction comes down to showing that your business is growing.
