Reporting from the Field: Intro to Narrative
By Lisa Fredrickson
Teaching the Intro to Narrative classes has been a blast! I am consistently surprised at the commitment and level of talent that is showing up on Zoom. Since the beginning of this pandemic, I have taught about 6 or 7 eight week segments of this class and my experience has been completely positive. Joy abounds!
We are about to start Week 4 of the latest series and there are so many great actors! At least two students say they have no experience and have never done anything like this, yet every week they hear compliments from more experienced people about their ‘grace’ or their ‘ability to really listen’. It is such a safe space for all levels! I am impressed by the support that strangers continuously show strangers, and how fast strangers can become friends, even on a platform like this.
This week we had a character with ‘Covid Spots’, we went on a ‘Chekhov Cruise’ and, among many other stories, felt the awkwardness of teen love nearly being thwarted because of misunderstanding. My heart! The stories stay with me all week!
