Crypto Asia in Review

As imToken is based here in Asia, let us present what happened around us over the last weeks:

Inner Mongolia (the China’s autonomous region ) may ban cryptocurrency mining, and proposed to shut all current projects by April 2021. It aims to lower energy consumption in 2021, which leads Bitcoin to increase 6%. (More on Bloomberg)

Dan Bin, chairman of Shenzhen Oriental Harbour Investment Management Co., Ltd., said on his Weibo that he had bought Bitcoin ETF citing Tesla’s BTC purchase and big governments seemingly easier stance towards the currency as motivations. (WuBlockchain reports)

“Who has more long-term investment value, bitcoin or gold?” was on Weibo top searches. Having always been at the center of Bitcoin’s debate in the English-speaking world, the topic became hotly debated on Weibo, Chinese biggest micro blog. (More on 8BTC)

4.5 million people signed up for digital RMB red gift envelopes in Chengdu, a city of 16 million. As with similar events we talked about before in this newsletter, recipients can use the red envelopes to pay for goods via app. According to official numbers, about 200,000 digital RMB red envelopes with a total value of 40 million yuan will be distributed. Huobi has been granted the Hong Kong cryptocurrency fund license and will launch Bitcoin, Ethereum, and multi-strategy funds on March 3. It helps Huobi to further expand their business. (More on Coindesk)
