Like Bitcoin, Voice Will Be Essential to Preserve Future Freedom of Ideas
You must fight to preserve this freedom.
You may not be aware of it yet, but your freedom of expression, and more generally freedom of ideas, are in danger for the future. It is in danger on several levels.
First of all, at the level of States. More and more countries are following the example of China, which has been building a real surveillance society for more than a decade. The Chinese social credit system locks Chinese citizens into a society where they have no free will.
Citizens must blindly obey the will of the central government in Beijing. Those who deviate from the right path are severely punished. All citizens’ actions are analyzed in real-time. A citizen who crosses the street when the traffic light is red will be immediately punished with points less.
The fewer points you have, the fewer rights you have.
The central government in Beijing has also urged citizens to download a mobile application on which Xi Jinping broadcasts propaganda messages to his glory every day. Citizens who watch these videos every day earn points.
With the upcoming launch of its state-backed digital currency, China is finalizing the surveillance society it is building. With the e-RMB, the Chinese government will be able to monitor all transactions of Chinese citizens in real-time.
“Bad” citizens will not be able to make payments in the future with this system.
Freedom of ideas is also under threat in Western countries
Living in a Western country, you may think that this censorship that China is putting in place is far from you. You may think that by living in the United States, or in Europe, you will always have total freedom of speech or total freedom of ideas.
It is a possibility, but unfortunately, there are ever-increasing risks. More and more countries want to create their own surveillance society. Following the example of China, most of the world’s major economic powers will create their own state-backed digital currency.
Citizens will no longer be able to make payments without the State knowing in real-time what they are doing.
This is tantamount to putting your freedom at risk. Governments could very easily decide to prevent you from making certain transactions or confiscate your assets.
This problem already exists with the banking system today. But with cash, you can have a way out. With state-backed digital currencies, which aim to replace cash in the long run, you will have no alternative.
Unless you choose to go with Bitcoin.
Freedom of ideas is also threatened by Web giants
With its pseudonymous network, Bitcoin provides you with a high level of privacy. Better yet, Bitcoin has no leaders. Its monetary policy of protecting its users makes it an incredible store of value that is resistant to censorship.
At the heart of Bitcoin’s success is the notion of decentralization, which is the key to the preservation of freedom of expression and freedom of ideas.
Unfortunately, the danger in this area does not only come from the States. The Web giants, the famous GAFA, represent a threat just as important for citizens as the States themselves. Their power even exceeds that of some States.
As hegemonic leaders in their respective fields, Google and Facebook impose arbitrary rules on their users that put their freedom of expression and ideas at risk. Worse still, these Web giants that offer you seemingly free products impose a heavy price on you by selling your personal data for advertising purposes.
Never forget that if a product is free, you are probably the product.
This is exactly the case with Google and Facebook, who are now abusing their positions to oppress their users more than ever. With YouTube, Google is taking the liberty of banning videos for spurious reasons and even deleting entire channels.
Years of effort are being undone by a decision that you can appeal, but the outcome is more than uncertain because bots answer automatically to these appeals most of the time. Their answer is always the same: the decision is irrevocable.
Facebook and Google’s hegemonic position gives them too much power
Facebook decides to delete content for equally spurious reasons, while at the same time deleting the accounts of some people who dare to express their ideas freely.
Once Google and Facebook exclude you from their services, you are virtually excluded from the Web. Do you think I'm exaggerating? YouTube and Facebook are so dominant in their field that the alternatives available to you won’t allow you to reach enough users.
Google is also a hegemonic leader in online advertising solutions with AdSense. There are many bans on this program, putting thousands of people in trouble every year.
The problem comes from the centralization of these platforms.
We have blindly given too much power to these Web giants who have seduced us with their free products.
The Bitcoin solution needs to be complemented in other areas
As Bitcoin shows us when it comes to money, we need to look for solutions to build a more open decentralized Web where users will be respected.
In terms of Web browsers, I am a strong supporter of Brave Browser which I use every day instead of Chrome now. Brave Browser is at the heart of the Basic Attention Token project which aims to create an open Web. Brave Browser makes your privacy a priority.
6 Reasons Why You Must Switch To Brave Browser Now
Take back control of your privacy and drop Google Chrome.
With Brave Browser, your browsing will be truly confidential. Without the trackers and targeted ads displayed on Chrome and other browsers, your browsing will be much faster.
So Brave Browser does a great job of balancing the user experience with privacy to build a more open Web.
In the field of social networks, there is a real urgency to move towards decentralized alternatives. For this reason, I decided to embark on the Voice adventure.
Voice aims to give you freedom in the field of social networks
Voice is a decentralized social network platform that wants to help real users to freely express their ideas. You will have understood that Voice is the antithesis of Facebook and other centralized social networks.
Voice makes transparency and respect for users a priority.
As far as the technical part is concerned, Voice is developed by the company Block.one on its EOSIO protocol and its EOS Blockchain. Proof of the importance of Voice for Block.one, the company has invested nearly $200 million in the project.
As explained by the CEO of Voice, Salah Michael Zalatimo, the opening of Voice to the general public for reading was brought forward to 4 July 2020 because the situation was becoming urgent. The control of Web giants over user data and content on their platforms was no longer acceptable.
The choice of July 4, 2020, is obviously not random. You can see it as a kind of declaration of independence from the yoke of the Web giants with the launch of Voice.
Registration to publish content on Voice is for the moment limited. It is by invitation, but things will speed up in the fall.
As you did with Bitcoin, or with Brave Browser, I now encourage you to come and discover Voice. I will be publishing more and more content about the Bitcoin revolution with the BTCwriter team that I joined as a Community Manager.
This is the beginning of a great adventure for what will be a key priority for me in the coming years: to participate at my modest level in building a decentralized Web that truly respects users.
