The people calling the Nordic countries home often have a few things in common. They’re fairly healthy, and it’s not because they’re up to date with fitness trends or do all the right things when it comes to working out. Across the Nordic Region, life expectancy is generally above the average within the European Union. In 2018, life expectancy at birth was 81.0 years, and all Nordic countries except Greenland were at or above the average.

It’s also widely known that many of these countries top global happiness rankings, year after year. Since 2002, the World Happiness Report has used statistical analysis to determine the world’s happiest countries. In the 2021 report, Finland made it to the top. In fact, the top seven happiest countries in the world for last year were all Northern European countries, and healthy life expectancy is one of the categories that is used when determining happiness.

If you’re into fitness and have been for a while, imagine what fitness and a healthy lifestyle meant to you when you first started out.

When you didn’t have a fitbit, a calorie counting app, or a gym membership.

That’s where we’ll start.
