How To Be Productive During a Pandemic
From the author of “How To Have A Good Day”
With the pandemic still in full swing, working from home has now become a norm. Although it can be convenient to work remotely, you don’t have to worry about waking up early and having to commute, you don’t have to get fully dressed, and you have access to your kitchen at all times. Yet, working from home does make it harder to concentrate since you’re not in a working environment. Home has always been a place where you come to relax, you don’t think about work or school, you just focus on yourself and your personal life. Because of this, it makes it harder for us to concentrate at home, for long periods of time, when it comes to doing tasks such as working, studying, etc.
Just to tell you a little more about the author, David Adams, aka Sydney Wong, a female Canadian entrepreneur, came out with a book on Amazon’s Kindle Publishing Direct which has tips and tricks on how individuals can stay productive while working at home. Because of how most countries are still working remotely, we’ve decided to share some of the tips and tricks on how you can stay motivated and work from home.
Plan Your Schedule
The first thing recommended to do when you start off your day would be to plan out what you want to do. Sometimes just having a bunch of work can be overwhelming, and this makes it hard to start on a specific task because you just don’t know where to start. By planning out your day and knowing what you have to get done, it makes it a lot easier to complete your tasks and accomplish any goal you might have. This is also important because it ensures that you also will have a specific amount of time allotted towards each task that needs to be finished. Ensuring that you have time for everything, you are able to get more done and not lose yourself with just one assignment or project that you need to finish. Sometimes we just try to put a bunch of time into a task thinking that it’ll be better simply if you spend more time on it.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t always work as you are unable to give an equal amount of time to the other things you might have to finish that day, and so by planning a daily schedule, you are able to work smarter and not harder.
When it comes to planning your schedule, it shouldn’t just be the tasks you have to complete, make sure it includes everything; from when you’re going to wake up, when you’re going to work, when you’re going to eat, and all that kind of jazz. This is because although it is important to make sure you get your work done on time, you also want to make sure you are physically and mentally healthy, otherwise you won’t be as efficient as you could potentially be. By planning your day, you are also able to feel a great sense of accomplishment as you tick off the tasks you had planned for the day, essentially just making you more happy overall.
Make Yourself a Happy Person
We all need to be reminded to focus on ourselves from time to time. Sometimes you’re so overwhelmed with work and assignments that you completely forget to just take a moment to breathe. And although it might not seem important, it really does make a huge difference when it comes to your mental wellbeing. By focusing on yourself, you are able to organize your thoughts, you can reflect on your actions and analyze what you have done well versus what you can improve on. I’m not saying that you have to write in your dairy every other hour talking about how your life is going. No, I mean just take a break every few minutes, talk to your friends and family, hell you should even procrastinate (but please remember, do everything in moderation, don’t procrastinate for 18 hours).
Remember to also always have something that will make you laugh or smile. When we laugh, our brain releases adrenaline and endorphins that stimulate well-being, pleasure, and happiness, plus it activates 400 differed muscles, so essentially being happy makes you hot. With this in mind, it’s also a great idea to go out for walks and get some fresh air every now and then. It’s a good healthy way to take a break and also allows your mind to wander about things not work or school related. That being said, walks are also good if you get stuck on a task. One of the ways I like to open up my mind and understand an assignment or a project is by taking a walk, it allows you to relieve some of the stress you may be putting on yourself, which leads to your brain coming up with more thoughts and ideas.
Meal Planning
Here’s the great thing about life, you have to eat. No matter how much coffee you are on or how busy you are with your projects, you have to eat. Eating can help reduce decision fatigue and just fatigue in general. This ensures that you won’t have a burnout as eating increases your body’s ‘feel-good
chemicals’ (ie: serotonin and dopamine) which reduced the likelihood of your body becoming over-exhausted. What can be annoying about eating is figuring out what to eat, getting groceries, the actual process of cooking. It all seems like fun and games when you’re young and your mama is cooking for you whenever you’re hungry. But life changes a little when you grow up. This is why it’s super important to meal plan. This just makes eating so much easier and more enjoyable when you aren’t stressing out about what to cook or order.
The way to go about meal planning is to simply pick a day of the week which you’ll dedicate to meal prepping. On this day, most people pick Sundays,
you’ll decided on what you want to cook and eat for the week, you make a list of ingredients you’ll need and go grocery shopping, and then cook them so you’ll have food whenever you please for the whole week. If you’re someone who likes cooking everyday, you can buy the ingredient and simply organize and prepare them (ex: chop the vegetables) so when you’re ready to cook it will be quick and easy. Of course, some times it is refreshing to be spontaneous and decide to make some tacos at 4am on a Tuesday night, so you don’t always have to be bound to your meal planning schedule, but it does make life slightly easier.
Final Words of Wisdom
These few tips alone will help you get started on how you can organize your day and make it more productive while being locked in your house. They might require you to change some aspects of your life, but these changes will totally be worth it and will result in an increased level of productivity along with mental health!
Although I can go on and on about more ways to be productive, I don’t want to spoil the book for you. So for more tips on how you can achieve your daily goals and be more productive at home, go check out ‘How To Have A Good Day’ by David Adams on Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing!
