I Took Ashwagandha For 6 Months — Here’s What Happened
A detailed overview of my journey, lessons learned, results, and precautions
In 2013, my friend dragged me to see a Yoda-sized seasoned Ayurvedic practitioner. He spoke softly and frequently laughed at his own jokes.
I was into building madman strength in those days, so I asked him to give me something for strength. My friend interfered and said, “Vaidya ji, why don’t you give him Ashwagandha (Indian Ginseng)?”
This was the first time when I heard about the Ashwagandha.
He replied, “If I give him Ashwagandha, Gaurav ji would start running after women,” and started laughing and laid down on his Khaat (A bed made of woven strings to a wooden frame.)
We figured he might know something we didn’t, and it likely had to do with this Ashwagandha thing.
But now I know what he was talking about and that he was right. Multiple studies have found that Ashwagandha increases testosterone levels. Testosterone is a hormone that regulates libido in men.
Low testosterone decreases libido and high testosterone levels increase libido (running after women in the Ayurvedic practitioner’s language).
