I walked 50,000 steps in one day.

I hadn’t planned it. Hadn’t meant to. Hadn’t even realized I’d achieved my all-time daily step record until I was writing a piece on walking 20k steps daily for 6 months.

That’s when I stumbled upon a 50k day.

I was mind-blown — but not because of the insane number of steps.

What shocked me was realizing I had gotten to that number without any planning or thought. I’d simply gone through my day as usual and racked up a crazy step count.

What got me there was all the walking-related habits I’ve automated in the last few years. The same habits that have allowed me to walk thousands upon thousands of steps regularly.

Even now that I’m pregnant and have just gone through a nightmarish first trimester, I’ve still managed to get more steps than the average person.

That’s how ingrained — and effective — my walking habits are.
