When we talk about food, it’s usually in absolutes. There’s good food and bad food. Spinach is good for you. Milk is bad for you. Coffee is bad for your health.

Could is it possibly be this simple or are we missing something when we talk about food?

From 1975 to 2016, the prevalence of overweight or obese children and adolescents aged 5–19 years increased more than four-fold from 4% to 18% globally

Our relationship with dieting is just as unhealthy. Food can be a source of pleasure and joy, it can help people bring together or it can be a place of shame, guilt, or remorse.

There’s “good food” and there’s “bad food”. We’ve somehow lumped all food into these two categories.

Why are there categories of food such as “Good Food” and “Bad Food”?

It’s a massive oversimplification and a marketing tactic. Giving it a name makes people feel bad about themselves and the food they are eating. They constantly stress about eating the right type of food. This results in food anxiety and binge eating. A lot of people struggle with it, myself included.
