Success in the gym/at home doesn’t happen overnight. In fact, you need a carefully prepared plan to achieve your goals. Here are five ways to ensure you find the path that will substantially increase your odds of reaching your fitness goals.

1. Knowledge

This is exactly where people fall short. There’s no secret method or formula for why one person loses weight and the other doesn’t. One person simply took action on what they knew, and the other didn’t. Knowledge is a vital ingredient to transform your body.

With that said, here’s a list of basics that you should know:

Calories

Understanding your calorie requirements and your daily calorie intake is an absolute game-changer. It will help you change your eating habits and will also make you more conscious of them as well.

Training

There are plenty of training routines out there. Therefore, it is important to learn about them and to figure out which would suit you according to your fitness goals.

Micro and macronutrients

This one could fall under the same umbrella as calories but once you know what protein, carbohydrate, and fat are and how different micronutrients such as magnesium, vitamin B6 vitamin C play a role in your body functions, you’ll have a deeper understanding of why you need to optimize your food intake.

2. Know your long-term goals and set short-term goals

Long-term goals serve as a reminder of the pact you made with yourself to achieve those goals. It allows you to be more accountable and responsible for yourself. Setting short-term goals allows you to come up with an approach to your goal. It serves as a map to help you get there.

3. Make them measurable

To ensure that you are following the right path, you must be able to measure your short-term goals. Jumping on the weight scale might be one of them. But the most effective way is to check your energy levels and to use a measuring scale/tape allows you to physically see the changes in your body. It can be something as simple as taking a peek at your diet and making some minor changes, or maybe adding a bit more cardio to your regimen to burn more calories.

4. Have fun in the process

The process is a journey, and possibly a long one. If you drudge through every day miserable because you hate what you have to do and you see no light at the end of the tunnel, you’re far less likely to ultimately succeed. Set your short-term goals in a way that allows you to have fun. Find the activities you enjoy. If you despise running but love to play a sport, go for it. If you can’t stand the thought of broccoli in your diet but want to eat it because you know it’s healthy, substitute it with a healthy option you enjoy, such as green beans, kale, cauliflower (or whatever healthy food you prefer)…

Again, sacrifices have to be made. But the time and effort you put into something you wanted to accomplish and the feeling you get when you achieve it is something no one can ever take away from you. So be proud of your fitness journey and never lose sight of your goals.
