Back in my teens and twenties, as someone who loved bodybuilding and sports — one thing kept baffling me about pro athletes.

I was amazed how professional athletes could perform at such a high level during the season in their sport, and still train hard in the gym.

In those early dial-up days of the internet, learning how these athletes trained behind the bright lights wasn’t easy — in the time it took for a web page to load, I could run to the corner store, buy a Sports Illustrated and be back home!

So I would read every magazine and book I could get my hands on, watch documentaries, and binge TV clips of pro athletes training in the gym to stay in shape for their sport.

But I wondered how they would have the energy and endurance to play game after game while traveling between different cities and time zones.

Meanwhile, I was obsessed with bodybuilding and would train my ass off in the gym for hours each day. Only to be left limping around for days with sore legs from “leg day” or have trouble putting on my shirt after training my chest or arms.
