As I write this sentence, Illinois just implemented a “shelter in place” order, essentially mandating residents must stay in their homes to prevent further spread of COVID-19, following in the footsteps of certain counties in California and New York.

Folks can still go to the grocery stores, put gas in their cars, take walks outside and make pharmacy runs. All local roads, including the interstate highways and tollways, will remain open. Only workers who work in “essential” industries, such as healthcare and banking, may actually leave their homes to go to work.

Unfortunately, this means most (if not all) gyms and fitness facilities are closed or are in the process of closing to help stop the spread. And most of us don’t have thousands of dollars in fitness equipment down in the basement we can rely on.

During these trying times, it’s imperative we keep ourselves as physically active as possible. Not just to make sure we don’t lose our current physical fitness levels, but also to combat the nationwide cabin fever that’s setting in. The mind can go to some wild places when it’s cooped up for too long.

As such, we must find unique and creative ways to stay happy, healthy and active. I’ve compiled some thoughts below to help you get moving.
