When we think of our lifespan, genetics immediately comes to mind.

If that were the case, I could look towards a bleak future — due to my parent’s mortality.

First, my father died of cancer. It will hit 20 years in November 2022.

His cancer was so widespread in his body that when it spiralled into the brain, it eventually took over and killed him within six months.

Dad (nor any of us) knew he had cancer until the lesions in his brain caused seizures.

When I inquired about his cancer, the doctors were unsure where it stemmed from. It was that bad.

Then, mum passed away from pancreatic cancer.

Mum has been dead for almost a year now (it will be a year on the 29th of August).

Her cancer resulted from diabetes.

Mum didn’t have the best diet, but she was physically active.

After she was diagnosed with type two diabetes, I put her on a modified fasting diet. As a result, she lost 14kg within a year.
