A recent study shows that 73% of people who set fitness goals as their New Year’s resolution give them up before meeting their goal. Nearly half of those who gave up before reaching their fitness resolution goal did so within six weeks or less.

Another study found that 43% of people expect to give up their goal after just one month.

Maybe the weight wasn’t coming off fast enough, or the washboard abs never appeared.

The benefits of living an active lifestyle and exercising regularly go far beyond how much you can bench press, or how much weight you’ve lost. These non-physical benefits of exercise are just as important as your body fat percentage.

Quality sleep

I always notice that if I happen to be out of the gym for a week or longer, I have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep at night. As it turns out, I’m not the only one.

“We have solid evidence that exercise does, in fact, help you fall asleep more quickly and improves sleep quality,” says Charlene Gamaldo, M.D., Medical Director of Johns Hopkins Center for Sleep at Howard County General Hospital.
