The Only Sound You Need When Running Is the Beating of Your Own Heart and Your Feet on the Pavement
As I run, each step and every heartbeat remind me of the quiet joy and freedom that come from just moving forward, one step at a time.
Not so many years ago, my headphones went everywhere with me. It didn’t matter how far I was going; they were either in my ears or in my hands.
During my school years, I had a small, blue iPod Nano that is still (just about) running to this day. As technology became more powerful and iPods stopped being produced, I put down my blue friend, stopped clicking on iTunes, and picked up a Spotify subscription. Unfortunately, Limewire had shut down.
My first job was in an office job, half an hour’s drive from my house. My role was data entry for examinations, as well as other administrative stuff, and it was super boring. No one warns you about the struggle from going to university and sleeping 16 hours a day to having to sit at a screen for 8 hours a day.
The building was three departments wide, two floors high, and located in the middle of a field. Our next-door neighbours on the left were a bunch of primary school children and on the right, we had nothing but tumbleweed.
