Good news: A recent study concluded that you don’t have to work out for 30 minutes almost every day to prolong your lifespan.

Though the World Health Organisation recommends we engage in a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous exercise (30 minutes, 5 days per week) every week, a study with more than 130.000 people across 3 countries — the largest ever done on this topic — found that what truly matters is the combination of how much time you exercise, do light activity, and sit.

Simply put, the amount of time you exercise should vary depending on the hours you spend sitting to optimize your health, which means you don’t have to follow an arbitrary guideline.

This is where the 3-minute hack comes in.

The Study’s Highlight: The 3-Minute Hack

“Thirty minutes of physical activity per day or 150 minutes a week is what is recommended but you still have the potential to undo all that good work if you sit too long.” — Sebastien Chastin, PhD, professor of health behaviour dynamics at Glasgow Caledonian University
