Phone addiction is very real. It affects your sleep, focus, and the quality of your relationships. But I don’t really have to tell you that — you already kinda, sorta, know. That’s why you clicked on this headline.

The big tech corporations that make smartphones are using every trick in the book to take advantage of their users’ information and biological instincts. And it’s not a fair game, either. As prominent historian Yuval Noah Harari claims in his book 21 Lessons For The 21st Century, “with the convergence of infotech and biotech, the large tech giants will soon know us better than we know ourselves”.

Since we carry our smartphones with us everywhere we go, we are constantly at the whim of these powerful market forces.

However, we are still in control.
