Why Food Quality Matters More Than You Think
Lessons from a coach who got it wrong
For years, I focused on macronutrients. Proteins, carbs, and fats — those were my holy grail as a coach. I’d help clients hit their macros to the gram, celebrate their progress, and adjust as needed to meet their goals.
It worked. At least, it worked on paper.
People lost weight. They gained muscle. They improved performance. But something was missing. I noticed my clients weren’t always feeling their best. Energy dipped, moods crashed, and adherence wavered over time. Even with perfect macros, something wasn’t clicking.
It wasn’t until I looked beyond the numbers and started addressing food quality that things began to shift for my clients as me.

The Hidden Cost of Ignoring Food Quality
Here’s the thing about strict macro counting: it can make adherence easier, especially in the short term. If you tell someone to eat 150 grams of protein, 200 grams of carbs, and 60 grams of fat, they’ll focus on hitting those numbers. It doesn’t matter if they get there by eating chicken breast, rice, and avocado — or protein bars, sugary cereals, and fast food.
