Why I’ll Never Go Back to the Gym

Has the home gym taken over?

I never thought it would come to this.

The gym had always been my sanctuary and comfort zone. As tough as my workouts were, going to the gym was relaxing and a way to unwind.

It’s also been my career. I’ve been a personal trainer for over 20 years and have worked in clubs in four different countries. We don’t have to rehash what’s happened over the last year and a half, but many of us had to move our workouts into our homes.

I hated it at first and was counting down the days until I could get back to my club. But here’s why I’ll probably never go back to a regular gym.

Yes, a Commercial Gym is Still Great

I’m not going to pretend they aren’t. It’s just my perspective has changed. Maybe yours has, too.

A commercial gym gives you access to hundreds of thousands — if not millions — of dollars of equipment for just a few bucks a day. You have access to classes, training, and any of the amenities they may offer.

A commercial gym can also be very motivating. The environment is very conducive to working hard. Seeing people train intensely can give you that boost you need to do the same.
