‘My Humps’ and Other Songs That Bug the Shit Out Of Me

Songwriting isn’t easy — I sure can’t do it. Matching lyrics to music and hoping it conveys emotion and makes sense is hard.
I love all different kinds of music, but there are some songs that annoy me every time I hear them.
I Shot the Sheriff — -Bob Marley and the Wailers or Eric Clapton
I don’t have a problem with who performed the song or the musical arrangements. My problem is with the chorus.
“I shot the sheriff, but I didn’t shoot the deputy.”
Why is the subject of the song telling anyone who’ll listen that yes, he shot the sheriff, but hey kudos to him he didn’t shoot the deputy?
You don’t get points for not shooting the deputy. No judge is going to say,” I was going to lock you up, but since you didn’t shoot the deputy, you can go free.”
Never say anything incriminating without talking to your lawyer and having them present.
