I don’t know about you, but I am a lover of change. Maybe it’s my ADHD or my personality, I don’t know, but I crave new experiences like a kid craves candy at Halloween.

It was this time last year when Debra G. Harman, MEd. and I brainstormed about giving her Pub, In For A Penny, a serious makeover. As a lover of makeovers, I was thrilled.

Previously, Penny was an intelligent listicle publication. As we talked about changing directions, a new vision was born, and The Penny Pub was launched late November 2023.

The vision for Penny was to create a space for writers to share their brief thoughts, opinions, and feelings on culturally relevant topics. We decided that the best way to facilitate that was through bi-monthly writing prompts.

As we rolled out our revamped pub, I was excited to interact with writers. Creating thought-provoking prompts to spark conversations was both fun and interesting. As our vision began to gel, it was satisfying to see new writers jump on board.

I was also stoked to open our doors to diverse writers, but it took me a couple of months to figure out the best way to do that.

Nonfiction, culture-related writing prompts. A place to engage. Neurodiverse & queer writers are warmly welcomed and supported. We are a boost-eligible publication.
