A Trip to Vienna’s Amazing Schönbrunn Zoo
We chose to buy tickets to go to the zoo instead of the Palace in Vienna and weren’t disappointed.
On our Danube River Cruise through Europe, the second port of call was Vienna. We had an included walking tour of the city in the morning but had not purchased tickets for the palace — undecided if we wanted or needed to look into the Hapsburg family’s wealthy (royal) style of living.
After listening to the port talk from our cruise director which happens each night prior to dinner, we decided on trying to get to the zoo.
The night before we had gone into Octoberfest and rode the famous Weiner Riesenrad — or Ferris Wheel — which happens to be the oldest in the world. That was a good selection, so why not try another of our cruise director’s suggestions?
Getting to the Zoo
We got to the zoo by riding the “underground” from St. Stephen’s Cathedral in downtown Vienna to the neighborhood by the Palace, where we still had to walk a distance to the zoo, which was largely like feeling our way along in the dark.
