Spring is the time of year when the travel bug really starts itching.

If you live in a northern climate — like Canada — then you will know what I’m talking about. Especially if you didn’t get a chance to have a winter getaway to somewhere warm and tropical.

My last vacation to somewhere hot and sunny was in Arizona last November. Five months of winter have passed since then. While we had a pretty good winter in Toronto with not a lot of cold temperatures or snow, by the time April rolled around I was ready for a break.

So reluctantly, I decided I had to cancel my trip. I didn’t want to make anyone else sick and worried about losing my health coverage in the U.S. with what would be considered a pre-existing condition. My little getaway was not worth breaking the bank.

When a few friends suggested a long weekend at the cottage instead, I was all in. It would give me the boost that I badly needed. Three-plus days without internet and spotty cell…
