If I could bring one person back from the dead, interview them, and then leave them in peace — it would be Anthony Bourdain. I don’t have to think about it, I’ve dreamed of interviewing him even while he was alive.

After reading most, if not all of his books and watching The Layover, No Reservations, and Parts Unknown — my admiration for Bourdain continues to swell.

Bourdain brings legitimacy to travel — predominantly cuisine and how this is incorporated into the culture of a place. He has an incomprehensible amount of soul that he brings to the table, literally.

Bourdain interviews locals, friends, chefs, and my favorite — rappers, finding depth where he’s at.

One of my favorite episodes is when he interviews Slim Thug in Houston. The segment focuses on custom cars called ‘slabs’ and BBQ— not your traditional food-centric travel episode. Another favorite is when he has a beer with Barack Obama in Vietnam. And another when he hangs out with Lupe Fiasco in Chicago.

You have to admit— the dude has clout.
