Did you know that most of America’s Grasslands are gone? It’s true! One source cites that as of 2019, less than 40% of 550 million acres of America’s Grasslands have disappeared (source). Another source states that the grassland biome has lost 90% of what once covered a large part of the interior United States (source).

Grasslands are essential for many species, including humans. They serve as nesting grounds for birds, magnets for pollinators, prevent water erosion, and act as carbon sinks. Yet, many remain unaware that these vast, beautiful lands that not only provide grasses but other important features are disappearing.
