Sandhill Curiosity Shop

Oh boy, what a fun challenge from JoAnn Ryan and In Living Color for May.

Weird, wonderful, experimental, strange and anything else that falls into this “Strange Brew” category. I love it.

I have some great Route 66 places to share that fit this to a tee.

Let’s start with one of the wackiest places we stopped at and meet one of the most eccentric characters we met along the way.

This is the Sandhill Curiosity Shop in Erick, Oklahoma. It is about a block from old Route 66 and five miles from Interstate 40. It is mentioned in all the guidebooks and route planning information.

I admit that I was a little leery to meet this man, Harley Russell. Some of the reviews of the place painted him to be not social and rude at times. Of course, there is the other side with stories of his odd collection of many things and tales to go with them.
