Yesterday we drove south to Laredo, Texas on the Rio Grande and went to Lake Casa Blanca International State Park on Lake Casa Blanca. The ruins of Casa Blanca, The Original Texas White House are located inside this state park.

It is sad that I can’t find much history on these ruins. There are no informational signs at the ruins themselves, and when I Google it there is limited information.

What I did find was that this building was part of a settlement established around 1754 by Tomas Sanches de la Barrera y Gallardo, the captain of Laredo. By the end of the eighteenth century the house was used as a mission.

Hostile Indians drove the people out of the mission and various families occupied the house over the years. In 1896, the land was purchased by John L. Wade, who established Wade City and reopened this building as a post office.
