Washing Clothes and Meeting People

We are tourists in Tuscany, Italy. After 9 days in the Tuscany countryside, we drove to Florence, Italy to spend 2 days there before leaving Italy. My husband and I each had clothes that needed washing so we headed for a laundry facility we had spotted near our hotel. We each had enough clean clothes to last until we flew home, so why did we bother to take a few hours to wash clothes? Somehow over the years, it became our habit of always washing and drying clothes before traveling, so we usually arrive home with suitcases full of clean clothes. Weird, right?

It is often also fun to visit the local laundry facilities. We love traveling and seeing as many tourist spots as we can but we also enjoy visiting with people from the local area and with other tourists. When we arrived at the laundry facility, it was full of people and almost all of the washers and dryers were full. However, there was one empty washing machine.

Now, how to use the machine? There were instructions on the wall in Italian and in English but when we stopped to read the directions, a man stepped up to explain how to buy the detergent, how to put the detergent into the machine, how to set the cycle for temperature and time, and how to put in the money to start the machine.
