S4:E8 — Die, Jerk

Rory is essentially auditioning to be a writer for the Yale Daily News. Part of the audition process is writing a piece for every department of the paper, including sports and arts. Rory does fine right up until it is her turn to review the performing arts.

First, she does a review of a chamber music recital and it doesn’t get printed despite Paris’s insistence that “they print everything; they’d print my mattress tag if it was within margins.” Rory’s editor says the article was “a bit of a yawn”.

Second, she rewrites the review of the same recital. She gets herself all hopped up on coffee and hopes it’s no longer a yawn. She watches as her editor crosses “everything” out. He says she’s showing progress, but it’s still “not very good.”

Third, she reviews a ballet performance while trading barbs with her mother. Her editor declares it, “nice” and prints it.
