The Character Flaws in the Gilmore Girls Reunion

Netflix’s “A Year in the Life” hit a lot of wrong notes, and most of them were character mismatches

Luke Danes is not a dumb man. He isn’t a highly-educated man in the formal sense of the word, but he is not dumb. He runs a profitable business, he’s people-savvy even though he doesn’t want to be. He reads, he keeps up with Lorelai in many ways, he’s clearly got strong spatial reasoning skills if he’s as handy as he is, he’s got strong technical skills, too.

He is not a buffoon who thinks surrogacy means he has to have sex with a stranger to impregnate her.

Paris Geller is an ambitious woman with a hugely financially successful corporation beneath her.

She would never carry an empty briefcase to impress a bunch of kids. I also cannot picture her agreeing to have children under any circumstances, not even to bolster her business credentials.

Logan Huntzberger was a weenie who was always going to do whatever his father said. His attempt at cutting himself off was always going to be a hollow gesture; he said himself he had “no choice” over and over again. Of course he had a choice — he just didn’t like that the choice was between being filthy rich and being only kind of rich.
