First of all, take care of yourself. But how?

Learning how to take care of yourself is quintessential. It’s the first step toward being a person of value to others.

It’s also a key ingredient, I believe, to finding peace. There is a crucial differentiator between peace and happy, the former being very much unshakeable… regardless of situations, while the latter is an emotional state, it comes, it goes.

What have I learnt thus far , about taking care of myself?

  1. Take care physically. Figure out how to keep yourself well rested, if that means taking short naps during the day and resting sufficiently during the nights … Give yourself that, make it happen. Eat natural and in moderation … eat to live not live to eat. Stretch, be active and move about but don’t go to the gym.
  2. Keep 15 minutes as a time window. Think of everything that needs to be done in slots of 15 minutes. Be creative in getting to your goals.
  3. Focus. When not, choose your distraction. Yea, our minds wander, let it be that way, but choose your distraction.
  4. Everyone has a different time in their life that they experience this, but I did after turning 28. You have done things that just … kills yourself. You did them because you gave in, and you didn’t find solace after relenting. You did them again. Same. Flip the coin, you’ve found moments of tranquil, you found it maybe in refrain, in refusing convenience or inertia, stepping outside of a comfort zone, saying no. Take these indications seriously, once sown, they tend to make you and they tend to be permanent. You’re not as wise as you think.
  5. You actually have the power to perceive and toggle your perception. For many of us, how we think about matters tend to be dictated, or a direct result of how we feel. If we only knew that it can be manipulated, but how powerful an impact it has. Next time, ask yourself … “How many different ways can I feel or perceive about this? What are they?”
  6. Here are the most potent weapons that aid a human being’s learning and development. A well nurtured curiosity, daring to question, asking questions, pursuing understanding and allowing your interests to pursue it’s course, experimenting, trying out projects, seeking adventures. You and your life cannot be defined by your ‘education’ nor ‘job’.
  7. Learn why you should empathise. And yes, it is taking care of yourself. Find out why.
  8. Figure out … the purpose of your existence, why you are alive. Whatever the answer, if your moments don’t tally with your raison d’etre, just remind yourself gently that you are wasting your time.

Notes to self.

Thank you
