Powered by Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s SOLVE Initiative, the Elevate Prize goes to leaders and role models around the world “with energy, ideas, solutions, and results that can elevate humanity, inspire movements, mobilize people, and catalyze positive, transformational change.”

This year, we nominated Rocky Sanchez Tirona, VP of Rare Philippines. Under her leadership, Rare’s Fish Forever program has scaled its work to revitalize coastal marine habitats and secure the livelihoods of fishers and their communities through community-led solutions in the Asia Pacific. In Rocky’s submission, she highlights how Fish Forever is addressing a key dimension of the prize — to elevate understanding of and between people through changing attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors:

Fish Forever uses insights from behavioral science to motivate fishers and communities to adopt sustainable fishing practices. Our people-centered, participatory approach empowers local leaders and elevates the role of marginalized coastal fishers and communities who depend on nature in local decision-making and governance.

See Rocky’s submission video below:

Finalists for the 2020 Elevate Prize will be announced on August 5 with Prize-winners selected September 18.
