‘Show up!’ is everyone’s favourite motivational quote. E get why

Just do it is not the best advise in the world

For one moment, consider yourself a self-proclaimed writer or artist or something you think you’re good at. Done that? Great. You’ve decided you’ll take this craft seriously and put in the work whether you feel like it or not, every day. Do me a favour as well, give this imaginary genius a name.

Wow, day one you’re doing it. You feel the rush. Day two, resistance comes but you push through and still do it. On day three, you feel unstoppable, you were born to do this! It’s like the goddess of inspiration sat you down and inspired you to continue. I love to see it. Do you?

Time and time again, you continue, you just might be the next Leonardo da, Vinci. Until a day comes where you’re sat down in front of your PC or board or studio and…. Nothing! Absolutely nothing comes forth. The thing that you found so easy at times to do, has now all of a sudden deserted you. How did this happen?

You suck! That’s what. You know why? Because that person you’re thinking of is me and He has a name. Friend, I have nothing to write today because I think I can show up haphazardly everyday and create without structure or routine.

I overestimate my own creativity.

Is this you as well? If so, we need help. We need discipline. We need a time and place where we show up and inspiration finds us because it knows where to meet us every single day.

We’re never late, never unavailable. We’re stewards of our own ability.

“Discipline allows magic. To be a writer is to be the very best of assassins. You do not sit down and write every day to force the Muse to show up. You get into the habit of writing every day so that when she shows up, you have the maximum chance of catching her, bashing her on the head, and squeezing every last drop out of her.”
Lili St. Crow

Show up at a particular time tomorrow, would you?
