It was just about a month ago when I caught a break in the acting business. Not only did I score the background part I’d applied for — but I was chosen to play a small role in a music video that featured a hit song sung by an “A-list” country singer whose identity the lister did not want to divulge.

This was an occurrence so rare that it was the first time something like that had ever happened in my ersatz three year career as a tv and movie extra. I was in a state of shock (slight exaggeration). The pay was $800 — and I would be transported to Schenectady, New York, housed in a fancy single room at a casino on the Mohawk River, and afforded a per diem for meals. Pretty sweet.

(And this wasn’t the only country video I’d appeared in last summer. Two weeks before I’d been hired for another gig, this one as a bar patron for an unrelated production.)

Given that I am a fan of country music, I was excited to discover exactly who the aforementioned “A-list” artist would be. So famous is this man that one of the first forms I had to fill out for this job was a non-disclosure agreement.
