Our goal has always been to build a great experience for those new to bitcoin. We want to be a *reason* mainstream consumers choose bitcoin. And while bitcoin discounts are a great incentive, it’s still difficult to set up a wallet, buy your first bitcoin, and make a purchase with it.
This in-wallet integration gives a new bitcoin user the entire experience. They can download Airbitz, and from the wallet, buy their first bitcoin, and spend it with Fold. New users don’t need to fiddle with QR codes or get stuck trying to buy bitcoin.
Target & Discounts
Right now, we’re offering 3% at Target. Expect that discount to grow as we build out our inventory and solidify the tech. In 2016, we expect discounts from 6–10%. In the next few weeks, expect as much as 5% off.
This is new for those of you that already use us at Starbucks. But moving to a discount that shifts with the market will make it easier for us to save you money, and offer savings at more merchants soon.
Now that we’ve released support for our second merchant, the third and fourth will be much easier. Expect to see new merchant news regularly.
Native Experience
We still plan to release a mobile app, but right now we want to focus on these in-wallet integrations. It’s been a while since we’ve been able to support a new merchant, and it’s gratifying to get software into users’ hands, faster. We’re happy to have things moving again, and provide a native experience for many of our customers.
