Task force weights in on charter schools. Gov. Gavin Newsom’s California Charter School Policy Task Force has released it’s long-awaited report, which supports new restrictions on charter schools and is expected to shape statewide policy. Los Angeles Times

Charter school expansion hits small Bay Area district hard. With millions of bond fund in the bank, the Vallejo City Unified School District must still find a way to cut millions from its budget. “While it was noted that declining enrollment is an issue pretty much everywhere, it is being felt particularly sharply in Vallejo, mostly due to new and expanding charter schools.” Times-Herald

Wheeling and dealing across state lines. The San Jose-based Rocketship charter school chain has bought property from a corporation affiliated with Turner Impact Capital of Santa Monica, California, but not in California as you might expect. The building is two miles from Nashville International Airport in Tennesee. In addition to Nashville and the Bay Area, Rocketship operates schools in Milwaukee and Washington, D.C. Nashville Post
